I was there!!!
As a guy born and brought up in Forres this was as good as it gets.
Elgin had only one chance in the first half when they hit the post whilst the Shire were on top and had several good chances but failed to take advantage. I haven't been to recent games but this felt like a familiar story.
Got to half time at nil - nil and into the 2nd half I began to harbour hopes of a nil - nil draw only to be undone by a goal that I didn't see as I was too busy talking to fans around me.
I was now thinking that we would probably lose more goals or at best hang on for a 1 nil defeat.
Was I wrong or what?
First Scott Livingstone worked his way to the bye line and fired over a superb cross which big Carl met and powered a header into the net,
Second a goal that even the Shire defence at its worst couldn't contrive to lose. The ball wa played back to the goal keeper by an Elgin defender and he and the keeper got all mixed up and the big Norwegian got himself in about them and finally the ball broke to him and we were 2 - 1 up. Problem there was about 20 minutes still to go. Memories of Stirling Albion last season.
Third the big guy lost the ball out on the right touch line but muscled himself back into posession and fed the ball to David Harvey who fired in a really good cross which was attacked but broke out to the edge of the box where Robertson rifled the ball into the net to make it 3 - 1 to Shire. Nerves beginning to settle.
No doubt about it this was a game Shire deserved to win and it was good to see all the team in and the management in the bar after the game. Didn't see any directors though.
I only hope the team take confidence from this win into the next few games and begin to build a platform to go on from.
Well done guys I'm really glad I was there.
Guess who my man of the match was?

Yeee-haaa! Well done, guys! Home to East Fife next week...considering their away record, we'll never have a better chance of making it 2 wins in a row. However as a Shire fan of long standing, I also know this is the type of game we could almost be guaranteed to lose. Anyone remember the last time we won 2 in a row?

This was bloody fantastic! I feel sorry for those who did`nt travel today as they missed the best `Shire game of the last 2 years. After having most of the play in the 1st half and making a few chances but 0-0 at half time, we watched Elgin take the lead with a decent goal and thought we would play well and get nothing (as in a few games this season). But thats not the way this game went - the determination, fighting spirit, graft, a bit of composure and ability to make something from the unexpected saw the team finally achieve that 1st win of the season and end the last `bad` record we were trailing behind us (last away win Jan 2003). I`m really pleased with the whole team but special mention to big Carl Thywissen, Joe Robertson and Ross Donaldson for making the fans trip home (and their own) a timeless trip of joy (slight hyperbole but what the hell). The players deserve a `small beer` or 8 and I recommend that Dennis & Greg should also sample some refreshments. What a fine weekend this turned out to be!

Rather good yesterday, great 3rd goal.
You still up Aussie ? And drunk as well, tut tut.
Wellibob was taking notes yesterday of the day but given he spent most of the return trip sleeping it will be a bit lopsided when he reveals all.
Great day and three away goals. THREE !
The only down thing was all the Shire fans who decided at the last moment not to travel, either by train trip or by the supporters bus. Their lose me thinks.

We're totally schect just now and the 4th December game at Firs is going to be a cracker. My sister is getting married and i'll miss it! Anyway, East Fife are a poor side this year and you should be able to take a point next week. As for the Rovers, a few people had heard Crucnchie was given a 'win or walk' ultimatum by the Bod last week and considering Cowboy McCormack and the artist formally known as Peter Heatherston were at the game yesterday................. We've only won one more league game than you now. That's the only difference between the two teams.

And you've only scored 3 away league goals.
Forget the top two, the rest are prettly evenly matched. Especially if Shire win next week. I see that the East Fife fans are seriously worried about the game. Good !
How did your Karioki Supporters night go on Friday ?

What struck me about the end of this game were the travelling fans who hesitated for a split second before jumping up and down joyfully at the final whistle - we had all nearly forgotten how to celebrate an away win! The Shire performance on Saturday was seriously good though and I must confess at half time I thought `we are playing well, but how are we actually going to get a decent result from this game?`. Instead of the usual `good 1st half means a rubish 2nd half` routine we continued to play well with a bit of guts and it should come as no surprise that 2 of our newer and more experienced players (Joe and Carl) got the goals that made our day. Obviously a good day for Dennis Newall as if we had`nt won soon there would have been comparisons with last season position and this would`nt have passed without comment. As it is we now have the same points as we had this time last season (remember we then got no points at all from 1st Nov to the very last game) and the team and manager now have the chance to do better - here`s hoping that can happen.

Congrats to shire, fully deserved the win yesterday. we were awful and didnt look up for it at all. Alot of Elgin fans say it was down to having a young side and playing four 16 year olds, but we cant use that for an excuse, no matter if your experienced or not, you need to be prepared to play for your shirt more than our boys yesterday. Congrats again, i hope you start to take more points off teams and win more games, its horrible to see a football club get as much bad press as you lot do. p.s - was really impressed with Robertson and Donaldson yesterday, can we have them? Good luck for the rest of the season, see you all at Firs park for the next game between us!

Seriously, cheers cityfan every team has its `bogey` and I think we have become yours. Elgin`s league position suggests that they are a hell of a lot better than last season, I`m sure your supporters will soon forget Saturdays game - till next time we play you anyway
