It looked like we would get nothing from the game today, with a chill wind in their favour Rovers were first to every ball and looked the hungrier team in the 1st half. At 0-1 down, going into the 2nd half `Shire got a bit more involved in the game but we just did`nt seem to get much of the ball and were creating only a handfull of mostly half-chances, the game was just winding down to its end and I was thinking `oh well, its been a good run but can`t complain that we did`nt deserve to lose today` when suddenly we got a lucky break (are`nt those things great, I`d forgotten what they looked like). A Rovers defender put his arm round one of our players neck and it was pretty easy for the ref to blow for a penalty - which Joe Robertson stuck away clinically.
Make no mistake, we were lucky today - although that makes a refreshing change from previous tales of woe it is a wake up call for the team that you have to be determined and focused all the time to get things out of games on a regular basis. This may be the first game in at least 2 years that we managed to get something out of without actually playing well - I`ll take the point without a blush.

A couple things to add re the Shire penalty incident.
1) What was the linesman watching when the initial foul happened. If, at that point he'd flag then it would have been a fair penalty. So when the play moved on an we ultimately got a weak penalty a second or so later what did the linesman do. Yip, nothing.
2) Can anyone tell me which player ran up and rubbed Joe's head just after the penalty decision was given by the ref ? Is this the new lucky penalty charm (al a France 1998) ?

Even if it wasn't a case of Shire getting what they deserved, you could say Rovers got their just desserts for time wasting from the 46th minute. Playing the ball into corners to win a succession of throw-ins, taking for ever to take the throws and generally trying to break up the flow of the game by playing for free-kicks or commiting fouls. The strong wind blowing diagonally toward Firs Street made good football difficult and 'though Shire tried to play it on the deck, they often became fustrated, resorting to high punts, which was where, ironically, the penalty resulted from.

As has been mentioned we were a bit fortunate to take anything from the match but after last season I can accept results like this no problem. What I was a bit dissappointed in was that Rovers seemed to be more fired up for the game than we were - in theory the game should have meant more to us than it did to them. Although we are in a pretty decent run of form (by Shire standards) we should take this as a warning that just because we have mysteriously discovered how not to lose that does not mean it will suddenly get easier - the team must graft for their breaks, only then will we get chances against other teams.
It is worth noting that we now (early December) have THE SAME POINTS as we finnished with in THE WHOLE of last season (ah, the horror of 03/04!). We now should look ahead to breaking that mark and aim for double figure points, lets not tempt fate and take this in bite sized chunks.

Given Saturday's result, we've now gone four straight league games without defeat, Strumps when was the last time we had this string of results?

Given Saturday's result, we've now gone four straight league games without defeat, Strumps when was the last time we had this string of results? 18/9/01 to 13/10/01 - Four 3rd Division games in a row as follows:- 18/9 - Albion Rovers (a) 4-0 Crowd 159 22/9 - Stirling Albion (h) 1-1 Crowd 403 29/9 - Brechin City (a) 2-1 Crowd 422 13/10 - Elgin City (h) 2-1 Crowd 214 Just typing the Brechin WIN gives me shivers! One of the top 3 results the Shire have had during this Century. Anyone fan who went to the game will never forget our performance in the 1st half. We were just ... Shire !

Sounds good if you say we are unbeaten in the league all of November and December add January and it sounds absolutely fantastic!

It is going to have to be one hell of a winter very soon to realise that dream !
Trust me, I have been to every Peterhead game since they joined the league and I fear the hurdle of the Boxing day game may perhaps be rather nasty.

We should hold no fear of Peterhead. How many people thought we would get thumped by QP, and how many were contemplating a hammering of collosal proportion at Morton. Strumps, we must have faith one, because we are 'Shire, two because they are not 'Shire, three because fear is contagious and it makes you poo your pants, and four because I've got a fiver riding on the game with my boss's husband who, poor guy, supports Peterhead and also mocks my joy at four games on the bounce without defeat.
