Well seeing as nobody else has started a thread about this game I thought I would. Cowden are the first team we've played who we should really be looking to compete with so hopefully we show that today. If Greig Denham can play the full match and show some level of fitness then it should make a difference at the back. There's also the possibility of a couple of players coming back from injury (Livingston and Miller) with perhaps a new signing coming into the mix as well. The most important thing for me is that we show that our confidence has not been seriously damaged by last week's second half debacle. Come on lads let's get some points on the board.

Unforunately a great chance to break our away losing streak passed us by as we lost a 1 goal lead. I'd have to say that the better team won although things could have been different if we'd scored a second while we were on top.
A mystery trialist scored our goal, a well taken strike from 16 yards after the ball broke to him from a free-kick. We then had chances to extend our lead, Ross Donaldson hitting the post with an excellent turn and shot and Greg Denham heading just wide from a corner. If one of them had gone in I think we could have been looking at an away win but it wasn't to be.
Cowden equalised about a minute into the second half when their boy was put clean through although Ross Gilpin was unlucky as he got something on it. The winner was a goal of extreme jamminess as a large deflection took the ball away from Gilpin and into the corner. However that can't take away from the fact that Cowden were the far more dangerous side in the second half and we didn't threaten much.
Still some positives to take from the game though. I thought Denham was very impressive, especially considering that he must be well short of match fitness. Also Ross Gilpin's fine form continued and several times in the game he was quickly out of his box to deny a Cowden forward. It was good to see Scott Livingston back as well and he looked sharp.
All in all, a disappointing game to lose but still some hope for the future.

A real game of 2 halves.
Shire didn't take enough advantage from being well on top in the first half and then increasingly let Cowden into the game.
We didn't manage to keep them out at the beginning of the second half and then lost a second goal to a huge deflection.
Although Shire defended better after this we didn't threaten to equalise.
I can see big Greg getting us goals this season as he attacks the ball well at the back post. We also gave a deal of solidity to our central defence. Without Chris Miller Jamie MacKay and Graeme McGhee are still playing out of position so we should still improve from today.
Elgin getting beat today has cheered me up by giving hope for next week.

More or less agree with dodger, classic game of 2 halves. A good rugged performance in the 1st half, well taken goal by the trialist. The 2nd half was dissappointing to say the least when we were hit with an equaliser so quickly and I do agree that their winning goal was a bit of a fluke. The thing that struck me in that 2nd half was how Cowden were so good at snuffing us out of the game after they got the 2nd - I`m not sure we even had a shot at goal for the rest of the game. Got to be pleased with the general display after last week though and Greg Denham looks a real prospect (!) in attack and defence. Good games from Ross Donaldson, Ross Gilpin and Livingstone too.

According to today's Sunday Mail the trialist was Joe Robertson but according to the Sunday Post it was Joe Bruce.
Can anybody clear this one up?

the trialist was the 13th apostle Rufus. I've also heard it was Jesus's OLDER brother james.

For anyone slightly confused by the last post this is just an example of the kind of dubious blethering that goes on at away games sometimes. I suppose it depends on what books you have been reading but the thread `stupidest thing said at an away game` only scratched the surface of the bizzare conversations you get drawn into.

It was Robertson.
As to the nonsense speek, I will post a sample of the madness from Saturday tomorrow.

Thought all Shire fans would like to know that matchday admission to Saturday's game with Elgin City will be free.
Littlewoods Pools are paying the normal admission cost on the fans’ behalf, to allow the club to let everyone in for free, so please let as many people as possible know about it, so we can have a bumper crowd for what we hope will be the first win of the season.
For the sceptics among you, see Thursday's F*****k Herald for details, and check the other Scottish papers over the next couple of days for news of the announcement.
Those who come to the Elgin game will also get a voucher giving half-price admission to the following home game with Queens Park. Littlewoods Pools will again be paying the difference.
