This was a poor game in that our defence looked shambolic at times. Not just that, there was a real sense that Montrose did`nt have to do anything much for their goals - they were mostly presented on a plate for them. The 1st & 2nd Montrose goals were virtually identical - ball worked down the wing, player gets cross in, guy in the box smacks it home - oh but are our team not meant to get in the way of this process? Shire started off brightly but this soon faded when our defending looked like it would buckle under a faint breeze - our penalty looked a touch soft (but who the hell cares) full marks to Stuart Kelly for putting it away so simply. The Mo`s 3rd had a little bit of skill about it their man made some space and cracked a low shot from outside the box which turned out to be very well placed and it beat the outstretched arm of Chris Todd in goal - but again the defence could have made a better job of closing down their man or at least blocking him. Their penalty I did`nt see so I won`t comment. I will be looking for a fair bit of defensive improvement on Tue night against Rovers otherwise there`s no point in the team turning up.

The defence is getting worse. For the second Montrose goal the ball wasn't crossed the winger beat Roddy for pace and then cut the ball back. 3 Shire defenders had an opportunity to get the ball out of the danger area but made no real effort and the ball was in the back of the net. We simply have no leadership at the back. Nobody takes any responsibility. There is no sign whatever of the defence being coached. How bad does it have to get before we see changes in the coaching of the team?? But then again, from the board's attendance record at games, they probably have no idea of what it's like to watch the team.

By my mad scale of things that was the 5th worst performance of the season after 3-0 defeat at Elgin, 4-0 defeat at Stranraer 5-0 defeat in the cup against Cowdenbeath and the of of course the nightmare 5-1 defeat at Montrose.
After 40 minutes yesterday I was thinking God we losing 3-1 to Montrose at home and we still got the 2nd half to come. Thank goodness Montrose couldn't be bother in the 2nd half.
It would be so bad if we were losing decent goals but the goals yesterday were soft, damm soft. Our current play reminds me of the performancing we put in in the reserve league in the earlier 1990's.
I was reasonably optimistic about our chances at Cliftonhill on Tuesday but after this game I think we have no chance and then there Saturday of course. Aiming to get super drunk before the game at Stirling so a don't remember a thing about the game, hopefully I'll have temporary blindness. Still only 11 games more to stuffer this season.

Now know why I was worried about the scoreline in the 1st half. Only the 4-0 deficit at Peterhead was a worse 1st half reverse.
Yesterday was the only time this season we have lost 3 goals in the 1st 45 mins apart for that Peterhead game.
