Well Saturday`s game against big spending Gretna is going to be another tough early season challenge for us. I remember Inverness Caley Thistle were considered `well off` in the mid 90`s, then later newly formed Livingston splashed the cash in the 3rd division and now it`s the turn of Gretna to take that mantle. While it`s true that money does`nt always guarantee success it sure helps a lot and over time and its influence will eventually bear fruit - as the eventual rise of ICT and Livvy have shown. What can we do against a player that cost in the region of £100,000 (an massive sum for the 3rd division) and a team that won 6-0 last week - we can GET RIGHT INTO THEM - if they are to get anything from us lets make them really work for it and give them something to think about. Lets back the team and give encouragement to our players when they do well and lets forgive the odd `balls up` that will happen now and then. Get stuck in there `Shire!

Er.. I think we will lose but hopefully not heavily. Any positive result here would be a triumph for our boys - but it does`nt mean I dont want it!

In terms of budget this is comparable to Chelsea playing Rotherham and on paper we shouldn't have a hope in hell. However football is not always straightforward and if (and it's a big if) we can keep it tight for the first 20 minutes Gretna might become frustrated. My biggest concern is set-pieces though as it's not our speciality and Gretna have a fair few beanpoles in their team. Anyway like Ramz says lets get stuck into them from the start and at least give them a fright.

Typing this I feel torn in two - I will explain. Today we were supposed to turn up and get well beaten by the overwhelming favourites to win our division, just like last season - only it did`nt happen like that. From being worried about taking another heavy beating beforehand, by the end the supporters were cursing their luck that we did`nt get an equaliser which our play merited. Inside I`m really chuffed to bits with our players after this game, they all put in a real shift and worked their socks off to counteract the threat from Gretna, especially after most of them played in Tuesday night`s long cup trip to Peterhead. Hats off to the defence, espescially Graham McGhee + Chris Newall - surely one of the best games I`ve seen them have. Really enjoyed Chris Miller`s free kick to make it 1-1, what a great strike!
My other instinct is to not praise too much untill we have actually done something, eg our first points on the board, our first win, our first away point for more than a season - I think you know what I mean. The fear of anything like last season happening again must be dispelled by some results in the next month or so or the good play and promising signs we have seen so far will be meaningless. Hope my `split-personality` problem will be solved by good `Shire results soon!

Wasn't it good to see a good representation in our director's box rather than the usual 2 or 3.
From my distance I assume that we had 2 reps of the PR company and 2 from our major sponsors plus "No Plans" and wee Alex Forsyth.
I was a wee bit disappointed that the sponsors folks didn't come and talk to the Shire fans, as they said they would, but I guess that is too much to expect.

Thats the best performance I`ve seen apart from the 1st home game against Stirling last year where we collapsed after 74 mins after leading 2-0. The defence was outstanding with hardly a mistake from McGhee which made all the difference. We can count ourselves unlucky not to get a point. A stranger walking into the ground on Saturday couldn`t have told you who were promotion favourites. We are getting better organised at the back and credit must be given to Newell & Denham. The two full backs are excellent and Miller packs some free kick. If they can maintain that workrate we should get points soon.
