He we go again.
Will we be the team that played in the 1st half on Saturday at Hampden or the team that played in the last 5 minutes of the same game ?
The new management team's 1st home game, will they continue with the same tactical setup or do they have a different style of play for the games at Firs Park ?
Predicting the result is difficult given Peterhead's up and down form. They are not the same team away as they are at home, however I just can't see us getting anything other than a close defeat. Hopefully I will be wrong.

Yes Tam and all you home fans, just remember that if we play defensively in a dour game of few chances and get narrowly beaten - thats still a lot better than most of the games this season! As I believe the great managerial quotemaster Tommy Docherty once said: "This is football son. If you want entertainment, go and see a circus!"

I was never a fan of Tommy Doherty. If Morrison was in charge for tomorrows game v Peterhead, I would fancy our chances of getting a draw or even a win, as his tactics at home games weren't too bad. At least we had a go at teams at home. Remember the 4-2 Stirling and 4-3 albion rvrs when Strumps workmate scored in injury time. I've got a feeling Newell will stick with the boring tactics he's adopted in recent away fixtures which will play into Peterhead's hands and I can see Martin Johnson getting a hat trick at least. I personnaly feel it's better to lose 5 -3 than 1 - 0. at least you can say you had a go. If Newell adopts a total defensive negative attitude to stop our heavy defeats, I think the fans will lose faith pretty quick

Forgot to predict a score. 4 - 0 to Peterhead. Martin Johnson to score all the goals if he's playing.

I think you have mistakenly picked up a bottle of methelated spirits instead of your usual beer wellibob. First of all we haven`t seen a home game under Newall yet so I think you are out of line to critisise his home tactics - save it for after the game!
Second, so what if the plan is to bore the sh*t out of other teams and their fans - I have had enough pious complements on our `good game` and crocodile tears shed for our `close but unlucky` performances to last me a lifetime and I am sick of it. If we can keep things tight then there is a greater possibility that if we get a lucky break or moment of skill that allows us to score we might actually take a POINT or (whisper it) maybe even THREE POINTS from a game. If we play our usual open, invite-the-opposition-to-score style and go a coulple of goals down in the 1st half then lets be honest it`s probably game over for us. If there is only one goal between the teams then no matter how much one team is better than the other there is always a chance for the lesser team right up to the final whistle.
Third, all due respect to Stevie but it was proved this season that he can`t hack it as a manager - I`d be surprised if anyone disputed this. I honestly thought that all the `Shire fans had the `we`ve lost the game again but was`nt the football pretty` attitude battered out of them by now - seems I was wrong! The bottom line is that Newall and Denholm must try their hardest to avoid losing all remaining games this season and they are attempting to do this with a squad that has failed to compete seriously with any of the other teams for 2 seasons now in this division. Give the new guy a break and lets see what the rest of the games bring us in results as well as performances.

If you actually read my post Ramz you will see I said I THINK he will stick to his defensive tactics so how can i be having a go at him. I for one prefer to see an entertaining game as Shire have always been known for. If I wanted to see 0-0, 0-1 every week I would be a Stenny fan. The last time we were a boring team was in the early 90's when a certain Mr mackin was manager and the footie was that boring that it drove fans away then as well. What is the lesser of the 2 evils. I only think IF we go out and attack Peterhead tomorrow we stand a chance of getting something. IF we sit back, play defensive looking for a low scoring game, peterhead's deadly strikers will heavily punish our out of sorts defenders. Time will only tell Ramz.

Does anyone think Dougie Polwart will take part tomorrow ?
No injury, but no play --- makes a lot of sense doesn't !

wellibob, I find it difficult to believe that any `Shire fan surviving the last 2 seasons like you would still be fussy about team tactics. Is getting beaten 6-0 (but playing entertaining football) better or worse than losing 1-0 (but playing a men behind the ball, in a defensive but not very entertaining game)? That`s actually a good question for a poll! I think we will have to agree to disagree on this - lets see what happens tomorrow!
Strumps, I am also a bit surprised that Dougie Polwart and Paul Rodden have not been given at least a subs place so far. Perhaps the manager does not think he can use them in his system or he is simply going with what was in the team when he took over for a while before making any major switches to look at others? Has anyone heard if injury or fitness has been a problem with these 2?

Talking of Paul Rodden, wasn't he an unused sub at Hampden last week (Dougie was certainly in his place in the stand just along from the Shire fans) ?
Looking at this season's stats today I was reminded of Ronaldo's goal in the 1-2 game v Ross County in the cup. Boy, do I hope we play as well again the Head tomorrow.

`Shire 0 Peterhead 3: Well another Saturday, another defeat, but this one was different from the last 2. Some people (wellibob) were worried that the manager would play a tight, defensive game at home but that did`nt happen today. We started the game brightly and pressured Peterhead and made a few half chances, but we faded from the scene when we just could`nt make a breakthrough. Unfortunately their goals were created from our mistakes - a bad backpass for their 1st, poor marking for the 2nd. In the 2nd half we came on to a game and had a go, creating a couple of reasonable chances but it was predictable when Peterhead picked us off on the break to end the game with their 3rd. I thought we played as well as we have for quite some time but lost the game simply because Peterhead were a better team.
Paul Rodden was given a run out in the 1st half and did prove that he could hold the ball up well and could dribble and although he later faded a bit and lost the ball a few times it has to be remembered that he`s had no matches under his belt since last year. It`s obvious that Derek Ure is still our No1 striker and the question still remains who would be best to play alongside him. It was good to see the manager giving other players a chance to show what they can do, Stuart Kelly was given a run out and looked good in the 2nd half and Dougie Polwart will probably get a game sometime soon - he was an unused sub today.
Just watching the 2 teams limber up before the game it struck me how much of an advantage their players had simply through being older, stronger and physically bigger and more intimidating - these things can count for a lot in the 3rd division and we definately need to get at least a couple of players better at standing up to players like this in the close season.

Were you watching the game ramz. Ure got a run out in the second half. Kelly played from the start. It was good to see that we just didn;t defend today but went for it until we lost the 1st goal. The heads went down a bit. After the 2nd went in, it looked as if the majority of players admitted defeat (exception Ure). Lets hope we keep the same starting attitude against Gretna next week as they will be on a downer after defeat today by cowdenlose and will be there for the taking

Were you watching the game ramz. Ure got a run out in the second half. Kelly played from the start. Oops - I meant to say Kelly looked good in the 2nd half but got muddled up, I sometimes use too many words! Agree if we play like this against against Gretna we will give opurselves a chance - they always seem to do just enough to beat us, maybe we can catch them out this time.
